In 1991 the Alberta Fish and Wildlife Division opened the province’s first
spring wild turkey hunting season and since
then the population has grown by leaps and
bounds.
Now, 14 years later, the number of turkey
hunting tags issued by the AFWD has increased,
with 200 tags issued for the spring 2005 season.

Each Merriam's turkey harvested must be tagged
immediately after the bird is killed, and
in the manner described with the paper tag
supplied with each licence. All instructions
on the back of the paper tag must be followed.
