Tale of the Hunt

This boss gobbler came in around 6:50 am responding to my calls from behind my Double Bull blind and was very vocal and his drumming was as powerful as a sub-woofer in some of the cars nowdays. I peaked through one of my back windows to get a glimpse and became even more excited after seeing this big boss Tom. Within 20 minutes a group of 4 hens approached from the South and he became interested enough to move out in front but was now around 45 yds out.

I waited and watched this beauty strut for almost 40 minutes and had given up on getting a shot with my bow and was using my camera when he decided to comeover and check out my decoy. I was fortunate enough to get a 15 yd shot with my bow and this turned out to be the best hunt yet.

He was beautiful with 5-beards (35" total) and weighing over 21 lb. with a pair of nice hooks. I submitted him to NWTF for scoring and hope to find out where he stands soon. What a great 05' opening weekend.

Seemed like a lifetime of turkey hunting all in 3-4 days.
