Story of the Hunt

We were driving down a dirt road surrounded by state land. It was about 10:45 a.m. We saw a Gobbler with a huge beard cross the road about 50 yds. in front of us. We went past him, turned around, and stopped and got out quietly. We eased our way into the woods to the opposite side that he went into (less thick brush + better calling spot).

I sat up in front of my dad and our friend who was calling, Mikey (friendss son) and I sat about 50 yds in front. He started doing a series of soft clucks and yelps, "Gobble, Gobble, Gobble" came from behind us and not where we intended it to be. We couldnt't turn because the turkey was already too close. My Dad's friend, Mike, couldn't call anymore because the bird was in the wrong spot. He needed to be in front and not behind us. So Mikey got a mouth call out and did three soft yelps to bring the giant gobbler the last 20 yds. It worked perfectly, the gobbler strutted in right to me.

This was the first time I have ever gotten that close to a turkey it was so exciting. That was my first turkey I have ever shot. I am only 13 yrs old, and I guarantee I will hunt turkeys for the rest of my life.

Good luck!
